FAQ flanders.info

What can I view with my internet connection?

Flanders.news is a multi media news site. The site works best with a broadband internet connection. Broadband users in Belgium can watch video fragments.

The quality of video via a narrowband connection is not sufficient to meet the VRT's standards, therefore we have substituted moving images with high quality slide shows. These have been compiled using pictures from the video clip and are accompanied with the original soundtrack (42K/sec). Audio files via narrowband connections are 32K/sec.

Only the narrow band version is available outside Belgium. We are not able to offer broadband quality video fragments abroad due to copyright law as some rights are held by companies other than the VRT.

How do I ensure that my settings remain unchanged

Flanders.news makes use of so-called "cookies". Cookies are small files that remain on your computer after visiting our site so that you are "recognised" the next time.

This will prevent you from repeatedly arriving at the welcome page while also saving your Media Player setup. In order to allow this, your browser must accept cookies. You can check this and make any necessary adjustments in your browser settings.

Can Flanders.info operate when firewalls are in place?

Firewalls can remain active but it is possible that the level of security will have to be altered to "normal". Firewalls set to extremely high security criteria may cause problems.

What should I do if I see an old version of a web page?

Information exchanged via the internet passes through a "cache". This saves files and graphics locally from web sites you have previously visited to help make surfing faster. If for example, you look at the news headlines and minutes later return to the same page, your internet provider can deliver the information from the cache more quickly than if it has to get the information from us again.

When your internet provider "forgets" to check if there is a newer version available, you will probably see the same, out of date page. Simply click on "refresh" for a new version. Sometimes you may have to combine this with the "shift" or "Ctrl" button on your keyboard.
